Baptism is the first of the sacraments of initiation and is the sacrament of faith. Parents who ask to have their child baptised are acknowledging that they have accepted that the child’s baptism is the start of a lifelong commitment and they, together with their child’s godparents, will be responsible for bringing the child up in the faith. Children up to 7 years of age can join infant baptism. Children above 7 years up to 16 years need some preparation sessions before the baptism. Infant Baptism Preparation Briefing and Registration

The Infant Baptism Ministry helps prepare parents and godparents for the child’s baptism. A baptism preparation briefing is held a week before the baptism. This session covers the significance of baptism, Christian parenthood as a vocation, the role of godparents and community in your child's faith formation and also the practical aspects of what to expect during the Rite of Baptism.

Parents and godparents must attend the preparation session prior to having your child baptised. Details on this briefing are as follows:
Date : First Sunday of each month except Easter (a week before Easter Sunday). Click here to see all the baptism dates in 2021.
Time : 2.30 pm
Venue : La Storta Room (attic level)
During phase 2 the briefing will be done online via zoom.

More details on this session can be found in the notes attached to the infant baptism registration form.

Some key points to note when registering your child for baptism:

  1. Parents
At least one parent must be a practicing Catholic
  2. Godparents
Only a maximum of 2 people should be chosen as Godparents (one male, one female)
Godparents must be confirmed, practicing Catholics, at least 16 years of age
As Godparents assist the parents in the child’s faith formation, they should be exemplary Catholic Christians who will guide and support their godchild in the faith
  3. Choosing a baptism name
The baptismal name is an initiation for the child into Christian life and identifies him/her as a child of God
The baptismal name you choose for your child should be a Saint’s name or should reflect a Christian mystery or virtue
This will encourage your child to model the virtues of his/her patron saint or the Christian virtue he/she is named after. Having a patron saint will also give your child an advocate to intercede for him/her.

Registration forms for infant baptism are available outside the church office or you may download the form here.

Completed registration forms must be submitted personally to the church office or by email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Forms should be submitted at least a week before the briefing.
